The Hamilton Herald-News 12/30/1998 James Earnest Ivey, 84, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, at his home in Hamilton County. Services were Saturday, Dec. 26, in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Nancy Lund officiating. Burial was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Pottsville. Mr. Ivey was born Feb. 17, 1914, in Waco, the son of Earnest and Viola Ray Ivey. He was baptized into the Baptist faith in his teens in Sudan. He worked at odd jobs in Sudan and helped his parents with work on their farm. He attended school in Sudan and graduated from there in 1933. In October 1938 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country in England, France and Germany during World War II. On Dec. 7, 1945, he was married to Irene Menzdorf at Camp Bowie in Brownwood. In May 1959 he retired from the army and moved his family to Hamilton County. He entered the civilian work force in Hamilton with the U.S. Post Office and was a letter carrier on the east side. He retired in March 1979 and stayed on his farm in Hamilton County. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and two brothers. Survivors include his wife, Irene Ivey of Hamilton; a son and daughter-in-law, James William and Sandra K. Ivey of Killeen; a godchild, Aime Jo Sommerfeld of Hamilton; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Robert Witzsche, Wilburn Karasek, Gary Buckner, Joe Sommerfeld, Billy Cole, Jerry Kranz, Zeke Cereze and Jim Vanderveer.
