Kenneth "Hoot" Gibson, 70, of Meridian, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1987, at his home of natural causes. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. this evening, Jan. 22, at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Meridian. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, also at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, with Rev. Douglas Riffle as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Cloverdale Cemetery, Boise under direction of the Chapel of the Chimes, Meridian. Mr. Gibson, a retired Ford dealer, was born Feb. 19, 1916, at Ansley, Neb. He was reared and educated at Broken Bow, Neb. He came to Idaho in 1938. He married Helen Rourke of Broken Bow, May 31, 1938, at Boise. He began his working career as a mechanic for Cranston Chevrolet of Boise. He worked at Gowen Field until 1944, when he was inducted into the armed forces during World War II. He served in a mobile training unit as a hydraulic instructor on the P-51 fighter plane until the end of the war. Following the war, he returned to the auto mechanic trade. In 1947, he moved his family to Broken Bow to manage the Ford Garage. In 1954, he moved his family back to Boise and joined the Sproat Ford Company at Meridian. In 1960, he and Roger Welker purchased the dealership. They remained partners in Gibson-Welker Ford of Meridian until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the Meridian Athletic Association; the Meridian Chamber of Commerce; and a volunteer fireman. Survivors include his wife, Helen of Meridian; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Kenneth Erwin Jr. and Judy Gibson of Pullman, Wash., Patrick L. and Gerry Gibson of Mentor, Ohio, and Ted A. and Jerry Gibson of Boise; two daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnne and Cecil Evans of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Judy and Lee Raney of Morris, Ill.; a sister, Leola Rourke of Boise; a half-brother, Bud Meston of Grand Island, Neb.; and 12 grandchildren. His parents, three brothers, and a sister died earlier. Pallbearers will be Rick and Ken Evans, Pat and Tim Gibson, Geoffrey Coonce, and Lee Raney.
