Bio

Note: this memorial updated January 23, 2016 with obituary transcription and note about possible other children born to Lemuel and Caroline Baldwin. ----------------- Wife of Lemuel Baldwin. They were not married in Jefferson county, Iowa, as far as known Jefferson county marriage records are concerned. Any clarification as to when and where they were married would be appreciated. No other marriage for Caroline was mentioned in her obituary. She is not the same person as "Elizabeth Caroline Baldwin" who married a John Dingman (# 66244383) who married a woman of that name on December 22, 1872 in Jefferson county, Iowa. A spouse relationship link to John Dingman was inadvertently made at one time, but it is removed as/of January 23, 2014. That Elizabeth Caroline Baldwin was, reportedly, born in 1819 and remarried to a David Collett, but when/where she died and is buried is not known at this time. A master listing of burials in Jefferson county compiled in 1990 listed a possible burial site of Glasgow cemetery, but that information was not sourced. ----------------- Fairfield Daily Ledger Wednesday February 24, 1932 Pg. 6 Col. 1 MRS. BALDWIN PASSED AWAY Well Knwn (sic. Known) Glasgow Woman Died Following Short Illness Mrs. Caroline S. Baldwin (sic), the widow of Lemuel Baldwin, passed away at 4:30 o'clock this morning at her home in Glasgow. She had been suffering with the flu for the past week. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at two o'clock from the Glasgow church. Interment will be at Glasgow. Mrs. Baldwin was born in Henry county March 13, 1843 (sic. names of parents not provided in this obituary), and moved to Glasgow fourteen years ago from a farm near Rome, where she had lived for 55 years. She is survived by the following children: Frank T. Baldwin of Milford, Neb., Elmer E. Bladwin (sic. Baldwin) of Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. O. W. Kigret (sic. Kiger) of Glasgow. One son, George Albert Baldwin, preceded her in death. ----------------- Note: it is possible that there were other children born to Lemuel and Caroline but who died young - not all infant children who were deceased were mentioned/named in obituaries of this era.
