Obiturary - published on March 15, 2003 in the Austin American Statesman David Edward Sandefur, age 65, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2003. David was born September 6, 1937, in Temple, Texas, to Doris and David L. Sandefur. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle. David was a member of Well-Spring - A United Methodist Community of Faith. He was a graduate of Southwestern University. He retired from the State of Texas after 30 years working for the Texas Youth Commission and the Texas Rehabilitation Commission. He had been a member of the Texas Association of Sports Officials, Temple Chapter and a track and field official at the Texas Relays for 30 years. David was also an active member of the Williamson County Sheriff's Posse. He is survived by his wife, Joan; son, Randy and wife, Margaret, of Austin; sons, Ronnie of Georgetown and Barrett of Round Rock; stepson, Matt Hemker, and stepdaughter, Tiffany Hemker of Georgetown; mother, Doris; brother, Don; and sister, Carolyn Chlapek of Temple; six grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and their families. He is preceded in death by his father, David L. Sandefur. The family wishes to thank his doctos, nurses, and friends for their care, encouragement, and support. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 15th at Wellspring - A United Methodist Communituy of Faith in Georgetown, Texas. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David's memory to the American Cancer Society or the Wellspring, PO Box 5029, Georgetown, TX 78627.
