Thomas "Tommy" Birt Wright, 81, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010. Graveside service: 10 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery, Lipan. Visitation: Open at Greenwood Funeral Home. Tommy was born Dec. 10, 1928, in Fort Worth to Zula McDaniel Wright and John Elisha Wright. Tommy graduated from North Side High School and then attended TCU. He served his country in the Navy during World War II. After retiring from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Tommy fulfilled his boyhood dreams of moving to the Texas coast where he owned and operated a shrimp boat for five years. After his experience shrimping, he operated a silver jewelry shop in Acapulco, Mexico. Following these adventures he worked for CBS and then traveled extensively in the United States and some foreign countries, obtaining and managing government contracts for Fed-Serve. After these very full retirement years, Tommy settled in the Weatherford area. At the age of 75, he was baptized into Christ at South Main Church of Christ in Weatherford. In 2005, Tommy married his best friend, Phyllis Fulmer. The following years were very happy and peaceful for Tommy as he shared his new family and built a new home with Phyllis. Tommy was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Texas for 50 years. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Survivors: Wife, Phyllis; daughter, Carolyn Marie; son, Thomas Don Wright; four stepchildren; and many friends and relatives. Published in Star-Telegram on June 18, 2010
