Obituary: Services for Deward William Meredith , 87, of Canton, TX, are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday June 12, 2010 at Eubank Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Fortner & Rev. Tim Roddam officiating, under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home, Canton. Burial will be in Meredith Campground Cemetery, Henderson Co., TX. He passed away June 9, 2010 in Athens, TX. Mr. Meredith was born October 17, 1922 in Pleasant Glade Community, TX, to John William and Vivian Irene Bledsoe Meredith. "Pleasant Glade was a rural community in southwestern Van Zandt County that bordered Odom, Phalba, Rock Hill, Beard, and Big Rock communities twenty miles southwest of Canton."[Van Zandt County History Book Committee, History of Van Zandt County (Dallas, 1984).] He was a member of the Zion Hill Assembly of God church for 65 years and a deacon. He was a trustee for the Martins Mill School District. He only went to the 8th grade and started to work to help make a living for the family. Mr. Meredith was a farmer, dairyman and rancher. His love for God was most important, the love for his family and friends was unspeakable.. He loved the Meredith Campground where he spent a lot of time in his later years along with his gospel tapes. He was a man of love, honesty, and hard work. The smile that he had continued until his death and he always wanted others to live for God. He was married to Hazel Marable Meredith for 64 years before her death in 2007. Deward was preceded in death by his Parents, Brothers, Forest (Bus) , J. D., Merle & Wayne Meredith, Great-Granddaughter, Harley Wiggins. Surviving are Daughters, Shirley & Allen Sides of Canton, TX, Patsy & Troy Busby of Jefferson, TX, & Juanice Cobbs of Groesbeck, TX, Grandson, Michael Taylor, Granddaughter, Lisa Stafford, Granddaughter, Tina Wiggins, Grandson, Brad Sides, Grandson, Mark Taylor, Grandson, Larry Pirtle, Granddaughter, Tonya Thompson, Granddaughter, Shelley Alexander, 18 Great-Grandchildren & 4 Great-Great-Grandchildren, Sister, Ladell Graham of Eustace, TX, Brother, Glenn Meredith of Dallas, Tx. Pallbearers are grandsons: Michael Taylor, Brad Sides, Bryan Alexander, Eric Stafford, Chris Taylor & Danny Taylor. Family will receive friends Friday 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
