Bio
Passed away in McDowell's Mill, the post office being renamed McBurg in 1892. Married Mary A Crowder 28 Feb 1839 in Lincoln County, Tennessee. There appears to be two headstones for this gentleman. One is sandstone, not in it's origianl position, with just William Gunter scratched into it. The modern headstone has a death date of 1870, which does not make sense, because he is listed on an 1880 census in the same home. "Family Data Collection" on ancestry.com has his year of death 1890. He is interred in the small family cemetery which is located just northwest of the original homestead, which no longer stands. There is no stone standing for his wife Mary Crowder Gunter in this cemetery.
