Mrs. Tom Valenta, Sr. After a long and painful illness Mrs. Tom Valenta Sr. passed away at her residence in Shiner on Thursday, March 13th. She was born in Czechoslovakia on Feb. 2nd, 1849, and at the time of her death was 81 years, 1 month and 10 days old. Her maiden name was Mary Riha. She was married to Tom Valenta Oct. 5th, 1863. About 1890 the family came to America, locating at Flatonia for two years, then moved to Gonzales, where they lived for seven years, then to Boundary and in 1921 to the town of Shiner. She is survived by her aged husband, four sons and three daughters as follows: Albert, Tom, Mike and John of Shiner; Theresa Jobb and Mary Rebecek of Moulton, Katherine Darilek, Sweet Home. She was preceded to the grave by three children, two dying in infancy and one daughter, Rozalie Barta, who died at the age of 30. Also surviving are 37 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Services were conducted at the home and church by Father Netardus, with interment in the Catholic Cemetery. The remains were followed to their last resting place by a very large procession of friends and relatives. Her six grandsons served as pall bearers: Albert Barta, Charles Jobb, Tom, Joe and Alben Valenta and Herman Darilek. The Gazette extends sympathy to all who mourn her loss.
