John Albert Caka was born at Flatonia, Fayette County, Texas, one of ten children born to Albert and Theresia (Stryk) Caka, natives respectively of Czechoslovakia and Moravia in Europe. His mother died in May 1902 and later his father married Marie Hundl. In 1908 the family moved to the Shiner community and continuously resided here since that time. On January 23, 1917, he was married to Miss Mary Theresia Matus in the Shiner Catholic Church with the Rev. Arthur A. Huebsch of Gonzales officiating. For some 25 years, the couple made their home on a farm in the Vlastenec community. Then for 11 years they operated a small country store and 13 years ago moved to the present residence in Shiner. The couple was planning a 50th wedding observance in January. Mr. Caka was an honorable and upright citizen, a very conscientious and efficient worker in all of his undertakings and possessed many other characteristics which endeared him to a wide circle of friends.
