Extract from obituary (Herald Coaster, November 15, 2005): Alfred Henry Hafer, 89, passed away Nov. 12, 2005. Born: Dec. 6, 1915, in Beasley, to Fritz and Louise Hafer Preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Edith Filip Hafer; his sister, Viola Hafer Myska; and his sister, Ruby Lee Hafer Elmore Mr. Hafer has been a resident of Rosenberg, for over 35 years. He received an honorable discharge from the army of the United States Dec. 27, 1945 after serving over three years. His service in the 801st Aviation Battalion placed him on Omaha Beach on D-Day. When it was learned that he could speak German, Intelligence used his abilities. Survived by: a sister and her husband and many nieces and nephews Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005 at Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel in Rosenberg with the Rev. Dale Staggemeier of St. John's United Church of Christ officiating. Burial: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Moravia Catholic Cemetery in Moravia, Texas. Memorial gifts may be made to any charitable organization.
