Violet Grunke Dies After Sudden Attack; Rites Held Monday Funeral services for Violet Louelle Grunke, 55, were conducted Monday afternoon Feb 4, 1963. She succumbed Friday at Holy Rosary Hospital in Ontario. She suffered a cerebral hemorrhage as she was leaving work last Thursday at Ore-Ida Foods Company in Nyssa. She was rushed to the hospital where she remained without gaining consciousness, until her death. Mrs. Grunke was born Aug 15, 1907 near West Union, NE, a daughter of Earl & Nora Drake Mehrhof. She was united in marriage on April 28, 1930 to Carl W Grunke at Hot Springs, SD. They resided in the mid-west until coming to Nyssa in 1942. Mrs. Grunke was a member of the Christian Church and worked extensively with Girl Scout troops in the community. In addition to Mr. Grunke, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jack (Patricia) Simpson of rural Nyssa and two granddaughters, Karla and Tonia Simpson. Other survivors include her mother of Wichita KS; two brothers, William & Carl of Alta, CA; two sisters, Mrs Bonnie Gibson of Wichita & Mrs Mary Hlavka of Sturgiss SD. Her father passed away in 1942. Pallbearers were W K Wahlert, S W Smiley, Brent Folkman, George Folkman & Eugene Grasty. She was a fantastic Mother & Grandmother and family meant everything to her, she will truly be missed. When Violet Louella Mehrhof was born on August 15, 1907, in West Union, Nebraska, her father, Earl, was 19, and her mother, Emma, was 21. Her mother Emma died young in 1910 at the age of 25. Violet went to live with her grandparents on her father's side at the age of 2 years old, they basically adopted her. She married Carl William Grunke on April 28, 1930, in Fall River, South Dakota. They had one child during their marriage. She died on February 1, 1963, in Nyssa, Oregon, at the age of 55, and was buried there.
