Buried in row 11. Old Part--North Side. Mr. James Royce Varnell, 86, Rogersville, passed away Friday, April 25, 2003, at his home after a lengthy illness. Mr. Varnell was a graduate of Lauderdale County High School and was retired from TVA after 31 years, most of that time spent a Colbert Steam Plant. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II and attended the Rogersville Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard Varnell, and three sisters, June Williams, Bess Dollar and Martha Varnell. The funeral service will be Sunday, April 27, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Rogersville Church of Christ with, Brother Windell Gann and Brother Gary Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Civitan Cemetery. The casket will lie in state at the church from 1-2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 5-8 p.m. Elkins East Chapel is assisting the family. Mr. Varnell is survived by his wife of 53 years, Beulah Mae Varnell of Rogersville; brothers, Jess S. Varnell and wife, Gen, Nashville, Tenn., William D. Varnell and wife, Patsy, Rogersville; sisters, Mary Favors of Rogersville and Peggy Williams of Anderson; grandsons, Michael Olive and wife, Leah, Center Star, and Matthew Olive of Huntsville; granddaughter, Jessica Olive of Rogersville; great-granddaughters, Haiden Olive and Elizabeth Olive. He is also survived by nieces and nephews and many, many friends. Pallbearers will be Alan Gautney, Wendell Hammond, Tim Williams, Matthew Olive, Michael Olive and Charles Gautney.
