Bio

Ralph was the son of Jerry F. Ashley and Nora Applewhite. His parents were married on January 4, 1888, in Kaufman County, Texas. His father died around 1899, leaving his young wife with five small children. Nora then married Andrew J. McFadden sometime before 1910. In the 1940 census Ralph lived in Mesquite and his occupation was cement finisher. At the time of his death Ralph and his wife lived in Dallas. He was a city of Dallas sanitation employee. Ralph died of injuries sustained when he fell from a moving garbage truck. The truck was rounding a curve when Ralph fell. His wife, Lou Ella Kirk, died sometime after 1960, but it is not known where she died or where she is buried. NOTE: According to his death certificate, Ralph was born in 1893, not 1895 which is on the grave marker. 1893 is also the date on both Ralph's World War I and World War II registration cards.
