George C. Lunsford Jr., 88, of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, in Dallas. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at Bates-Cooper-Sloan Chapel with Chuck Huffman, Leon Grissom and Gib Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Snow Hill Cemetery under the direction of Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jerry Harvey, Jerry Boatner, Harry Lawler, Tommy Milam, Harold Sanders, Randy Presley, and Sam Russell. Honorary pallbearer is the Hiram Brown Sunday School Class. Mr. Lunsford was born on April 30, 1922, in Titus County, the son of George C. Lunsford Sr. and Clara Mae (Daily) Lunsford. He was warehouse manager at American Petrofina, retiring after 36 years of employment. He was a member of Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Betty Lunsford of Mount Pleasant; a son and daughter-in-law, George C. and Reba Lunsford III of Houston; a daughter, Judy (Lunsford) Fernald of Houston; grandchildren, Dr. Erin and Jimmy Curry of Red Oak, Shelley and Ryan Menze of Jacksonville, Fla., Elijah and Priscilla Lunsford of Sealy, and Meggen Rhodes of Houston; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gene Lunsford; and a sister, Lucille Camp. The family will receive friends from 6 n 8 p.m. Friday, May 14, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army Home Town Endowment Fund or to the Snow Hill Cemetery.
