Slyvia R. Prokes Maryville, Mo. 1912 - 2010 MARYVILLE, Mo. — Sylvia R. Prokes, 98, of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Golden Living Center. She was born January 12, 1912, in Schuyler, Neb., and graduated from Schuyler High School. She married Jerry E. Prokes, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage before his death in April 2000. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary (Melkus) Dudek; an infant son, Gerald; daughter, Rosemary Prokes in 1977; and brothers, Harold and Clement Dudek. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Julia Prokes of Maryville; grandchildren and their spouses: Gina and Justis Ehlers of Durham, North Carolina; Cynthia and David Benson of Perrysburg, Ohio; Roger Jr. "Marty" and Janelle Prokes of Edwards AFB, Calif.; Brian Prokes of Lake Dallas, Texas; and Laura Prokes of Kansas City, Mo.; and three great-grandchildren, Adelyn Ehlers, Matthew Benson and Emma Prokes. Sylvia lived in Ogallala, Neb., from 1971 until 2002, when she moved to Maryville. She helped found the Scottsbluff County Association for Retarded Children. Sylvia was a member of the Presbyterian church, and later the United Methodist church. Sylvia has been cremated with private family services to be conducted by the Rev. Drs. Marjean and Don Ehlers at a later date. Interment will be held at the Schuyler Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Nodaway County Humane Society or NoCoMo Industries.
