Daughter of John and Charlotte Davis, wife of Martin Van Buren Hilliard. The following is Annette's obituary from the Grapevine Sun: Mrs.Hilliard Dies The death angel visited the home of Mrs.R.E. Shockey Wednesday night, February 20, 1929 and took away her dear mother, Grandma Hilliard. Mrs. Hilliard was born in Indiana, January 30, 1846,was reared in Illinois, and was married to Mr. Martin Hilliard, September 2, 1862, coming to Texas in 1884 and settling in Denton County, where they lived several years. To this union was born 17 children; a husband and five children preceded her in death. Surviving her are Mrs. I.N. Shockey, Roanoke; Mrs. R.E. Shockey, Ft.Worth; Mrs. J.C. Morrow, Ft.Worth; Mrs.Jennie Stephenson, Friendship, Tenn.; Mrs Will Young, Lewisville; Mrs.Emma Lloyd, Arlington; Mr. Russ Hilliard, Grapevine; Robert Hilliard, Lewisville; Emery Hilliard, Carrollton; George Hilliard, Big Spring; Steve Hilliard, Comanche; Will Hilliard, Oklahoma; besides over 150 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grand-children. Grandma was visiting her daughter at Ft. Worth when she took suddenly ill and died in a few minutes time. She professed religion in Christ at the age of 18 years and joined the Christian Church where she has lived a Christian life and a devoted mother since. Her remains were shipped back to Comanche, her old home, for burial. She was another one of those old Sainted mothers who never died, but just went to sleep, and she will be greatly missed by a host of relatives and friends.
