Obituary from The Hopkins County Echo, Sulphur Springs, Texas, Friday, Jan 15, 1982 Jesse Wood, 81, who lived in the Shirley community on Route 5, died at 5:50 a.m. Friday in Memorial Hospital. He was a retired long-time public school teacher in Hopkins County. Mr. Wood was a member of First Baptist Church in Sulphur springs. He was born June 22, 1899 in Hopkins County, son of W.P. and Eugenia Flanagan Wood. He was married to Pearl Hampton in Hopkins County on July 24, 1925. She survives. Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Pat Mallory of Irving; three sisters, Mrs. Chloe Winchester and Mrs. Esther Fleming, both of Sulphur Springs, and Mrs. Leona Blackmon of Mineral Wells; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 9 in Murray Orwosky Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Ridley officiating. Burial was in the Shirley Cemetery with Don Oglesby, Horace Irby, Roby Griffin, Randy Stracener, Robert Mallory and Bob Mallory serving as pallbearers.
