"The Abilene Reporter-News," 3 Dec. 1966 TALPA CITY COUNCILMAN DIES AT 55 Ballinger – Ross S. Martin Jr., 55, member of the Talpa City Council, died Friday at 2 p.m. in San Angelo Clinic Hospital where he had been about 10 days. Funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Allen Davis Chapel here. Burial will be in Talpa Cemetery. The Rev. Ross Grace, pastor of Talpa Methodist Church, will officiate. Born May 19, 1911, in Tatum, N.M., he moved to Coleman County with his parents in 1913 and spent most of life in Talpa. Attending Daniel Baker College, he married Mildred Dodds May 19, 1934, in San Angelo. He served with the Air Force in World War II including 2 ½ years overseas. Surviving are his wife; his mother, Mrs. Lena Martin of Talpa; one brother, Yates of Coleman; three sisters, Mrs. Geneva Winn and Mrs. Juanita Pittman, both of Dallas; and Mrs. Ethel Smith of Long Beach, Calif.; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Kate Dyches of Talpa; eight nieces and four nephews.
