Funeral Services For Jesse M. Neal, 59 Years Old, Held Tuesday Afternoon Funeral services for Jesse Munroe [sic] Neal, 59, were held at the First Baptist Church of Panhandle, at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Truett Stovall, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. R.F. Jones, minister of the Assembly of God Church. Burial was in Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Poston Funeral Home. Graveside rites were conducted by Kit Carson Post of the American Legion of which Neal was a past commander. Pallbearers, members of the Odd Fellow Lodge, were Lloyd Miller, C.H. Bell, Belmont Slagle, Herman Powell, J.W. Hammers and Albert Moore. Honorary pallbearers were members of the lodge. Ritualistic rites of the lodge were conducted at the church. Flower girls were Mrs. Leona Broadaway, Mrs. Herman Powell, Mrs. R.F. Cheatham, Mrs. Cecil McNeil, Mrs. Wallace Keahey and Mrs. Idelle Buzbee. Neal was born Dec. 19, 1891, at Stephenville, Texas, but moved later with his parents to Norman, Okla. He was married April 17, 1920, to Mrs. May Summers in McLean, Texas. He later moved to Miami and came to Panhandle in 1923, making his home here since then. He was a water well driller until an injury to his back curtailed his activities. He was a veteran of World War I and was active in American Legion work. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge and the Baptist Church. Death occurred about 8 o'clock Saturday evening, April 15, from wounds from a 12 gauge shotgun believed to have been received when he tried to get out of a truck in front of his home. Death was instantaneous. Survivors include the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Minnie Frye, Pampa, and Mrs. Pearl Cordell, Ulysses, Kan.; a son, Gene, Pampa; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Velma Dowell, Amarillo; 5 grandchildren, and 6 sisters, Mrs. Ethel Fairchild, Douglas, Ariz.; Mrs. Thelma Mankin, Council Hill, Okla.; Mrs. Nettie Lee, McLean; Mrs. Alpha Jones, Lefors; Mrs. Anna Claussen, Groom, and Mrs. Billie Burkett, Clayton.
