Thomas Jefferson Honea, a longtime resident of Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas, passed away on February 15, 1941, at the age of 86. He was born on July 23, 1854, in the state of Mississippi, and spent much of his life devoted to ranching and farming. Mr. Honea made his home in Cleburne for approximately ten years prior to his death, residing at 213 Forest Ave. He was a hardworking man whose occupation was listed as ranching and farming, a way of life that shaped both his character and his legacy. Thomas was the son of John Wesley Honea (1832–1908) and Susan E. Blackmon Honea (1836–1906). He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nannie Dixon Poole Honea (1859–1924), with whom he shared many years of marriage and family life. Together, Thomas and Nannie raised a large and loving family. He is survived by his children: Lena Estelle Honea Showalter (1879–1943) Lester Monroe Honea (1881–1969) Dr. Thomas Carlton Honea (1883–1946) Ada Pearl Honea McDonald (1886–1960) Clifton Eugene Honea (1888–1970) Nellie Honea Hopkins (1891–1974) Jewel Honea Randle (1895–1974) Lona Honea Beardsley (1901–1993) He was also preceded in death by his daughter Lola Honea (1897–1905). Thomas was one of several siblings and shared his life with a large extended family, including: John Marion Honea James Monroe Honea Emily Ozella Honea Reeves Leslie Lendolph Honea Alma Lavenia Honea Chenault Alla Mae Honea Billington The cause of death was recorded as chronic myocarditis, a longstanding heart condition. Funeral arrangements were handled in Cleburne, and Mr. Honea was laid to rest following services shortly thereafter. Thomas Jefferson Honea will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, rancher, and member of a pioneering southern family whose roots stretched from Mississippi to Texas. His life reflected dedication to family, honest work, and perseverance through the changing times of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
