Ernest Stark was a tall thin man with a great sense of humor. He and his wife Mary Evelyn Walker Stark owned a neighborhood grocery store located at 12th and Comal St., Austin, Texas. He was a devout Lutheran and belonged to St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas. His greatest joys were his wife, children, and grandchildren, and his love of dancing. He learned to love dancing when his family owned Dessau Hall during his teens and his first years of marriage. His greatest tragedy was when his wife Mary Evelyn died of a heart attack in his arms. On January 12, 1972, he was awakened about 4:45 A.M. by the sounds of his wife gasping for air. He took her in his arms and held her as her eyes rolled back in her head and died. His second greatest tragedy was the death of his daughter, Erin Jane Stark Wilson. Erin Jane had played golf on a rainy California day and, as a result, developed pneumonia. While in a hospital in Santa Monica, Los Angeles County, California, she lapsed into a coma. Through the incompetency of a member of the nursing staff, an air bubble was introduced into her IV tube, the resulting emboli caused her death. Ernest's son survives him. Ernest was loved and respected by all who knew him.
