Born in David City, the eldest son of Louis and Mable (Hudkins) Hofpar. Jim lived in Loma and graduated in 1966 from David City Aquinas High School. He joined the US Marine Corps and served our country during the Vietnam War. After returning from the war, he moved to Lincoln and worked for Burlington Northern Railroad as a carman apprentice before becoming an engineer for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad in 1974. He had a strong interest in "black" cars and loved car activities and his son's athletic events. He loved to travel with his wife, Pam. He loved to watch for Nebraska Football recruits and loved to tailgate on football Saturdays.
