MALTA - Former Billings resident and World War II and Korean War Navy veteran Donald Ward "Don" Painter, a retired plumber and maintenance supervisor who enjoyed riding his mountain bike, died of natural causes Saturday at a Malta retirement home. His funeral is 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, followed by a reception at the Malta V.F.W. Hall. Burial with military honors is 1 p.m. Saturday at Mountain View Cemetery in Livingston. Kirkwood Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include daughters: Terry Healy, of Malta, Donna Howard, of Poulsbo, WA, and Mary Jo Mehrens, of Billings; sons: Robert Painter, of Australia and Sam Painter, of Billings; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Bari. Published in Great Falls Tribune on April 20, 2010
