Earl Vinton Rosenberry, 86, of Shelby died Saturday, April 10, 2010, at David Place in David City. Mr. Rosenberry was born Jan. 24, 1924, to Edward Bruce and Eva (Blevins) Rosenberry at the family farm south of Shelby. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dee Ruby "Peggy" (Lake) Rosenberry, on Sept. 17, 2004. Survivors of the immediate family include: son and daughter-in-law, David and Diana of Shelby; daughters and son-in-law, Susan Smith of Columbus and Sandy and Roger Gabel of Shelby; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Virginia Reisdorff of Tulare, S.D., and a host of other relatives and friends. Earl attended Star Country School south of Shelby. He served in the United States Army during World War II and received the Bronze Star. On Nov. 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Dee Ruby "Peggy" Lake in Colfax County. To this union, three children were born. They farmed south of Shelby on the home place where Earl was born. Earl was a special "Papa" to Rachael, Cody, and Grant Gabel. Earl's favorite vacations were to Las Vegas, where his granddaughter Rachael lived. He was also able to enjoy time spent with his great-grandsons, Logan Hough and Zackary Gabel. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and Shelby Legion Post 296 that Earl and his wife managed for several years. In August of 2009 Earl moved to the Assisted Living in Osceola. He enjoyed playing cards uptown in Shelby, farming, watching "Wheel of Fortune," gambling and his friends at Ag Park. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Norma Sobotka and Nora Daum; two brothers, Edward and Virgil; and one son-in-law Sherman Smith. Published in The Grand Island Independent on 4/11/2010
