Bio

Merrell Lee Platt was born in Needville, TX on March 27, 1924. She graduated from Damon High School and was valedictorian of her graduating class. She went on to graduate from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, and she received a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Houston. She was a Registered Nurse for Humble Oil Refinery and later taught nursing at Lee College. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Marshall M. Platt and her two brothers: Joseph Marion and Claude Jennings Williams. She is survived by her sons: Jack Platt and wife Sydney of Houston, and Joe Platt and wife Kim of Baytown, and her grandchildren Craig Platt, Brittany Platt, Eric Platt, and Madison Platt. Her sisters: Emogene Winebrenner of Damon, TX; Effie Mae Vogler of Rosenberg, TX; and Isabelle Watson of Denver, CO. Merrell Lee was a member of the First Baptist Church of Baytown and loved singing in the church Choir. She was a member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. Merrell Lee was a member of the Exxon Annuitants, as well as a member of Memorial School of Nursing Alumni and a University of Houston Alumni.
