Carl William "Billy" Stovall, 67, of Amarillo died Saturday, March 27, 2010. Graveside services will be Friday in Myrtle Cemetery in Ennis. Carl, aka Knucklehead 337, was born Feb. 24, 1943, in Somerville, Mass., to Burrow "Bill" and Evelyn Downy Stovall. Carl was a 1961 graduate of Ennis High School in Ennis. He attended Navarro College in Corsicana prior to joining the U.S. Air Force. Following his military service, he graduated from Spartan Aircraft School in Tulsa, Okla. He worked for American Airlines in Dallas and later in Los Angeles. Carl married Elaine Kiser in 1979 in Canyon. He eventually settled in Amarillo, working at Tradewind Airport for 30 years before retiring in 2008. Carl's passion for flight was with him throughout his life as evidenced by his enormous collection of aviation literature and memorabilia. He also was a devoted "Three Stooges" fan and could usually be seen wearing a shirt featuring his favorite characters. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elaine; and a sister, Sally Stovall Rizzo. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Darren Spier of Canyon; a grandson Jake of Canyon; two sisters, Catherine and husband Mel De la Garza of Granada Hills, Calif., and Mary Stovall Maldonado of Ennis; a brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Karen Stovall of Bryan; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
