Bio

Former legislator Robert V. Milacek, 68, died Wednesday. Milacek, an Enid Republican, served in the House of Representatives from 1976 to 1982. He was a member of the Senate from 1997 to 2004. Milacek died Wednesday from a cerebral hemorrhage after being injured in a fall two weeks ago, said his wife, Linda. Milacek had been hospitalized. In addition to his time in the Legislature, Milacek had been a junior high and high school teacher, a farmer and an active community member, his wife said. His is survived by his wife and three daughters. Services for Milacek are pending. ___________ Robert was born January 17, 1942, in Enid to Charles V. and Anna Semrad Milacek, and died Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. He graduated from Waukomis High School in 1960. He received his degree from Panhandle State University in 1965, and his master's degree from Phillips University. He married Linda Petersen in Clayton, N.M., on Jan. 25, 1964. He started his teaching career at Owasso schools and later became principal at Glencoe Junior High School. In 1969 they moved to Waukomis and he taught history and government at Waller Junior High School and Pioneer High School. He farmed for over 20 years. They lived in Waukomis for 32 years before moving to Enid in 2001. He was an Oklahoma state representative from 1976 until 1982. He then was elected to serve District 19 in the Oklahoma State Senate in 1997, retiring in 2004. He was a member of St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church and the Garfield County Republican Party. He was preceded in death by one brother. Surviving are his wife, Linda of the home; daughters, Pam Milacek of Dallas, Kim Blankenship of Enid and Stephanie Smith of Tulsa; sisters, Teresa Smith of Denver, Beatrice Schovanec, of Enid, Agnes Bianco-Schue of Plano, Texas, and Alice Diedrich of Overland Park, Kan.; brothers, George Milacek and Charles Milacek, both of Waukomis; five grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2010, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. The Rev. Larry Kowalski will officiate. Burial will follow in Waukomis Cemetery Arrangements are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. (Enid News)
