Bio

Mary E. McClure Duvall, the daughter of Samuel C. McClure and Nancy Carnes, was born on November 2, 1849. Her paternal grandparents were William McClure and Mary Wells. Her maternal grandparents were William Carns and Eliza Decker. She was the second wife of Julian N. Duvall, the son of John Miles Duvall and Margaret Ricketts. He was born on June 22, 1838. Julian Duvall and Mary McClure were married on September 22 1870. At that time she became the stepmother of Julian's children by his first wife Lavenia Whobrey. The 1880 Census of Sand Spring, Grayson County, Kentucky shows that Juliam Duvall's family consisted of: Julian, a farmer, age 40; his wife Mary E., age 29; and children Mary F., age 13; Margaret A., age 10; Marten, age 8; Hesse, age 6; Samuel, age 4; Henry T., age 3; and Nancy A., age 6 months. Also living with the family was Squire Ashley, an 18 year old laborer, who was working for Julian Duvall. There may have been other children born after this census record. Julian Duvall died died on July 18, 1898. He was buried in the New Harmony Cemetery in South, Grayson County, Kentucky. Mary E. Duvall died many years later at the age of 74 on February 26, 1926 in Grayson County, Kentucky. She was buried with her husband in New Harmony Cemetery in South, Grayson County, Kentucky.
