Karen Marie Yates Mathers, 69, of North Platte died Oct. 31, 2007, at Linden Court in North Platte. Karen was born July 28, 1938, to Clarence John and Ida Katherine Haddock Mathers at North Platte where she grew up and received her education. Karen married Raymond Louis Yates and they later divorced. Karen worked at Perkins Restaurant as a prep cook, and The Sands, where she retired as the restaurant kitchen manager. She later worked for Penny's Diner as a cook. She enjoyed traveling, going to the casinos and her family. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her mother, Ida of North Platte; two daughters, Marilyn (Bob) Furse of Phoenix and Linda Cumming of North Platte; two sons, Ben Yates and his fiancée, Mona, of North Platte and Ray Yates of Omaha; three sisters, Marylene Archuletta of Littleton, Colo., Pat (Jack) Albers of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Verdena (Doug) Knott of North Platte; a brother, Dan Mathers and his fiancée, Martha, of North Platte; five grandchildren, Aaron Furse, Michael (Dannie) Cumming, Tammy (Shawn) Williams, Justin Cumming and Leslie Torres; five great-grandchildren Derrik, Daulton, Danika, Joree and Tyce; and other family. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence, and a son, Walter Joseph Yates. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society. Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. today at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with the Rev. Carey Higgins of the River City Church officiating.
