Houston County Courier - Thursday, November 3, 2005: Obit for: Mrs. Doris J. Adams Monk, age 79 of Lovelady, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2005 at her residence in Lovelady. Mrs. Monk was born September 28, 1926 in the Volga Community and was a lifelong resident of Houston County. Mrs. Monk was a graduate of Weldon High School. Mrs. Monk was a former member of the Lovelady Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Monk was a homemaker and had worked as a teacher's aide for Lovelady I.S.D. and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lovelady. Survivors include her daughter Jo Doris Speer and husband Paul, of Lovelady; son Michael W. (Mike) Adams and wife Donna, of Freeport; stepson Louis A. (Binky) Monk and wife Debbie, of Lovelady; stepson Bruce Monk and wife Lawanna, of Lovelady; sisters Laura LaRue and husband Oddie, Shirley Parker, Margaret Parker and husband Leslie, Lillian Driskell and husband Joe, all of Lovelady and Lucille Adams, of Crockett; brother-in-law W. A. Monk of Tyler; grandchildren Chris Speer and fiancée Bryce Swanson, of Spring Brian Speer, of San Marcos, Mandy Mata and husband Thomas, of Okinawa, Japan, Wendy Ali, of Freeport, Kyle Monk and wife Carol, of Huntsville, Brandon Mink, Mandy Wilson and husband Greg, all of Lovelady and Cayla Monk, of Tyler; five great-grandchildren; special friends Nelda Deaton, Anna Johnson, Lorraine Crouch and Ella Frances Dodd; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceded in death by her first husband Leon Adams; second husband Ben Monk; parents W. R. (Bud) Jordan and Mimie Jordan; sisters Eloise Westmoreland, Ruth McDougald and Frank Alice Gardner; and brothers Dick Jordan and Jack Jordan. Funeral Services for Mrs. Doris J. Adams Monk were held Wednesday, November 2, at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Lovelady with the Rev. Scott Matthews and the Rev. Mitchell Kleckley officiating. Interment followed in the Lovelady Antioch Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church- Lovelady, P. O.
