Bio

Reva Glance Swann, 79, of Mt. Olive, Ala., went to be with our sweet Lord on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007. She was a most caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her inner light shone with a brilliance that enveloped everyone who knew her. The torch has now been passed to each of us and it was her desire for this torch to never be extinguished. There is now another angel in heaven watching over us all. While on this earth, she lived a life that was an example of the way a life should be lived. She loved her God, her family, her church and friends. She was a prolific writer of inspirational poems and songs. She will be deeply missed by all. A native of Haywood County, Ms. Swann was the daughter of the late Herschel and Rachel Glance. She was preceded in death by husbands, Grady C. Holcombe and Thereal Hendricks; brother, Russell Glance; sisters, Novella Roberson, Alma Shipman, and Ruth Yarborough; and a son, Gary Dean Holcombe. She is survived by her husband, Ray Swann of Mt. Olive, Ala.; one brother, Reeves Glance and his wife, Doris, of Canton; one daughter, Joyce Harvella of Gardendale, Ala.; two sons, Grady C. Holcombe of Nahunta, Ga. and Larry Holcombe and his wife, Peggy , of Franklin; one step-daughter, Donna Roper and her husband, Jimmy, of Mt. Olive, Ala.; one step-son, Alan Swann and his wife, Sheila, of Mt. Olive, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. His Lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou has been faithful over a few things. I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of the Lord. Matthew 25:23 The funeral service will be held in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Rev. Blaine Jones officiating and assisted by her niece, Louise Stamey. Burial will follow in Little Sandy United Methodist Church Cemetery in Madison County. Published: 2007-01-09 Asheville Citizen Times
