Pvt. T. J. Ayers enlisted in 2nd Arkansas Infantry, Company "D", CSA in Marianna, Lee, AR on 6 May 1862 by Lt. Richards. He was on the muster roll for 30 June - 31 August 1864. His name appears on a Roll of Prisoners of War Exchange by order of Major General W. T. Sherman, Comdr., Military Division of the Mississippi Rough & Ready on 31 August - 1 September 1864. He was captured near Jonesborough, Clayton, GA on 1 September 1864. He is identified on a muster roll for the above organization of Officers & Men paroled at Greensboro, NC. He was released on 28 April 1865. Thomas Ayers was married to (1) Lucy Ann Bennett in Texas, St Francis County, Arkansas in 1856. (2)He married Martha A. Love in Montgomery County, Arkansas on October 10, 1889 and lastly he married(3) Louraney "Emily" Pate. They were united in marriage in Womble, Montgomery County Arkansas on October 6,1915
