Bio

Rodney Lee Mennenga, 63, of Gatesville, Texas, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at home with his family with the support of Scott and White Hospice. Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2010, at Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Willie Clarke officiating. There will be no visitation. Rodney was born in Hastings, Nebraska, to the late Lloyd and Mildred Hurst Mennenga. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1965. He served two years in the U.S. Army, 12 years in the Army Reserves and was a Vietnam veteran. He worked for a number of years at Hastings Industries and was married to Wanda Adler Mennenga. Wanda passed away in 1977 and in 1983 he married Sally Henry Mennenga and together they moved to Texas. Rodney worked several years for TDCJ and after retiring he spent his time fishing, gardening, and planning family parties. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda, in 1977; a granddaughter, Jessica McLeod; and a brother, David Mennenga. He is survived by his wife, Sally; daughters, Maggie Lee and husband, Mario, of Gatesville, Tammy Adler, of McKinney and Tracy Owens, of Greely, Colorado; sons, Aaron Mennenga, of McKinney, SSG Charles Henry and wife, SSG Elizabeth Henry, of Stafford, Virginia and Troy Adler, of Gatesville, TX; ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sister, Ruthie Wiltrout and husband, Lavern, of Raleigh, North Carolina; and a host of friends and extended family members.
