Mary Kathleen Proffitt, 89, of Raton, passed away Saturday March 6, 2010 in Raton. She was born Dec. 12, 1920, in Cross Roads, Texas, the daughter of Joseph H. VanDemon and Lena Williams VanDemon. She was a retired telephone operator for Mountian Bell, a member of the telephone pioneers, the American Legon Auxiliary and a member of the United Methodist Church in Raton. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Alice Owensby and husband Morrow of Folsom, Ann Schmeits and husband Ron of Raton, and Kristy Forrester and husband Jack of Raton; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Inurnment services will be Friday, March 19, at the Fairmont Cemetery in Raton. Arrangements are under the direction of the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home of Raton.
