ZEELAND -- Leonard J. Vogelzang, 46, of Oakland, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998 at his home. The son of Leonard and Josephine Vogelzang, he was a member of the Oakland Christian Reformed Church, served as deputy sheriff in Allegan County, the last six years in the Fennville area. He was a veteran of Vietnam and Desert Storm. He served 24 years with the National Guard as an Army Master Sergeant and most recently in the Air National Guard. He also was a member of the 9th Michigan Infantry Civil War Re-enactors. Survivors include his wife, Marijo; children Richard at home and Christi and Trisha Meyer of Oakland; brothers Mick and Joan Vogelzang, Joel and Lynelle Vogelzang and Douglas Vogelzang, all of Holland, and Tim and Claire Vogelzang of Saranac; parents-in-law Richard and Johanna Doezema of Kentwood; brother-in-law Andrew and Barbara Doezema of Lowell; aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the Oakland Christian Reformed Church, 4452 38th St., Hamilton, the Rev. Steven Sytsma officiating. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State St., Zeeland. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery, Holland.
