Vlasta "Tina" Marek, 88, of Abbott, Texas, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010, in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, with the Rev. B. George as celebrant. Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Aderhold Funeral Home. Vlasta was born in Hill County, Texas, to the late Frank and Mary (Lenart) Machovsky. She attended the Treadwell School near Abbott. On Nov. 5, 1945, she was united in marriage to A. D. Marek in West. Tina was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm until their retirement in 1981. They were charter members of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. For over 10 years Tina loved volunteering for the West Rest Haven. She also enjoyed sewing, playing dominoes, gardening, traveling, and especially going on "visits". She was a member of the K.J.Z.T. Society No. 104 in Abbott. She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 25, 1986; and an infant sister, Marie Machovsky. Survivors include son, Harry Marek and wife, Shirley, of Irving; daughters, Marie Melton, of Duncanville, and Lori Mynarcik and husband, Danny, of Chalk Bluff; grandchildren, Mendi Whitt and husband, Chris, Amy Windham, Adam Bajer, and Amanda Mynarcik; great-granddaughters, Savannah and Madison Whitt; and many other relatives and friends.
