Services for Truman Francis Shelton, 82, of Lubbock will be at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at First Christian Church. Officiating will be the Revs. Michael Passmore and Kim Clowe. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home. Mr. Shelton died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at his residence. He was born to the late Alexander and Mizzie Shelton Feb. 16, 1921, in Slaton. He grew up in Slaton and graduated in 1946 from Texas Tech University, where he played first chair clarinet with the Texas Tech Band. He married Mildred Marie Wicker Dec. 21, 1941, in Slaton. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, and also played clarinet for the Air Corps Band. He returned to Lubbock after the war and continued his education, completing a masters degree. He retired from the Lubbock Independent School District after 39 years as an educator and principal. He was a member of First Christian Church and the church choir for 50 years. Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Lubbock; a daughter, Sharon and husband Robert McIntire of Lubbock; a son, Michael and wife Carron Shelton of Austin; a sister, Treva McCormick of Slaton; five grandchildren, Robert Jr. and wife Tina McIntire of Lubbock, Michael-Jay and wife Amy McIntire of Spring, Texas, Kimberly Shelton of Charlotte, N.C., Cara and husband John Knight of Dunwoody, Ga., and Andrea and husband David Dotson of El Dorado, Kan.; and 14 great- grandchildren.
