Bio

Robert Wallace Thomas was the third child (of nine) of Robert Wallace Thomas and Ann Eliza Kidd Thomas. He was born in a section of Warren County, KY that was then called Popular Springs. He was first married on January 30, 1866 to Laura Jane Tolar Thomas (who was a widow of James Solon Thomas). They had three children together: * William Solon Thomas *Mary Roberta Thomas Bailes *Annie Laura Thomas Lawrence His wife, Laura, died on November 9, 1879 in Collin County, Texas. She is buried in Mugg Cemetery there, beside her parents-in-law. ------- Robert evidently raised his three children as best as he could. On July 25, 1880 he married Mary Eliza Queen (that name is used in the "My Name's Thomas family history; the Colorado City Cemetery transcription uses "Mary Louise") of Collin County, Texas. Children born to them: *John Wallace Thomas *Abbie Ellen Thomas Etheridge *James Kemble Thomas *Hattie Elizabeth Thomas Logan *Laura Amanda Thomas *Chester Stokes Thomas *Robert Charles Thomas *Samuel Thomas Robert W. Thomas entered the ministry of the Missionary Baptist Church about 1882. He enjoyed a very extensive ministry being a recognized leader in his day, and was beloved by all with whom he came in contact. He moved to Baylor County, Texas in June, 1899, remaining there until 1906, at which time he removed to Colorado, Mitchell County, Texas. ∼ On 1 February 1916, the spirit of Rev. R.W. Thomas bade farewell to all earthly ties and went away to be at home with God. For more than 12 months he was a constant but patient sufferer, during the periods of his most intense suffering he would say, "It is the Lord's will, and all good things work together for good to those who love Him". He enlisted in the Confederate Army at the age of 16 under Captain William Page, and Colonel Joseph H. Lewis, with the 6th Kentucky Infantry. Later, he was transferred, and was under the immediate command of General Albert Sidney Johnston. After the battle of Shiloh, at which Johnston fell, the company was discharged, but he immediately enlisted with the 3rd Missouri Cavalry and there served his country until he surrendered at Jackson Post, Arkansas. Brother Thomas was converted and joined the Baptist Church in 1860, he was ordained into the ministry in 1884. He knew the hardships and privations of a pioneer preacher. In 1895, he began serving as a faithful missionary and pastor in Baylor and adjoining counties, and up to the time he left to move to Colorado City, he had organized or helped to organize every church in that immediate section. He moved to Colorado City with his family in 1906, since which time his life has been a genuine blessing to many both young and old. Surviving is his loving wife, eight children, two brothers. /s/ Rev. W.L. Williamson His pastor
