Bio

Daughter of Benjamin Wheeler & Sarah Hayes Married Lewin Henry Young January 12, 1847 in Albermarle Co. Virginia The Wichita Daily Eagle Tuesday, January 7, 1913 Fall Hastens Death Mrs. M.E. Young Succumbs At Age of 83 Following Paraletic Stroke A light stroke of paralysis of four weeks ago, combined with complications from an injury received seven years ago, caused the death of Mrs. M.E. Young, 521 Cleveland avenue, Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Mrs. Young was 83 years old and resided with her daughter, Mrs. Harry Freeman. Four weeks ago as Mrs. Freeman was dressing her mother, Mrs. Young was struck unconscious with paralysis. She apparently recovered from the stroke, but gradually drooped and pined away Seven years ago as Mrs. Young was wheeling her invalid husband across a room, her foot slipped and she fell, jerking the chair over. The chair fell upon her left leg and fractured it between the knee and thigh. The fracture was set, but on account of her age, failed to knit properly, and she was made an invalid, but with the aid of a crutch could get around. This accident is supposed to have been partly the cause of her death. Mrs. Young and husband moved to Sedgwick county in 1886 and settled on a farm in Kechi. They resided on the farm for ten years and then moved to Wichita. Mrs. Young was a member of the Baptist church. Her husband was also a member of the denomination, joining and being baptised when 80 years old. Five daughters, Mrs. Fannie L. Freeman, Mrs. Helen Lyons, Mrs. Alice Madison of Wichita. Mrs. Mollie Frazier of Cullison and Mrs. Ella Rife of Kansas City. Mo., and two sons, P. W. Young of Wichita and Charles Young of Belleville, Texas, survive her. All the children with the exception of Charles Young were with their mother at the time of her death. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock from the Freeman residence, 521 Cleveland avenue. The Rev. G.W. Cassidy will officiate, and the body will be taken to Kechi for burial.
