Bio

Regina K. Gros died on Feb. 15, 2008, at age 87. She was born Aug. 12 1920, at Westphalia, Texas, the eldest of the eight children of Emma Hoelscher and Frank Karnowski. She married William A. Gros on June 7, 1939, in San Antonio. Her husband, parents and brother, Albert Karnowski of Boise, Id., preceded her in death. She is survived by daughter Theresa Gold and husband, Hugo, of San Antonio; son, William A. Gros Jr. and wife, Susan, of Baton Rouge, LA.; grandchildren, Joseph Gold and wife, Eilene, of Dallas; John Gold and wife, Teresa, of San Antonio; Heather Carpenter and husband, Neil, of Baton Rouge, LA.; Paul Gros of Baton Rouge, LA.; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers: Edwin Karnowski of Washington, N. Car., and Florance Karnowski of Alcoa, Tenn.; sisters: Madeline Wessels of San Antonio; Mildred Hanel of Cameron; Jo Zvonek of Canyon Lake and Ann Heinrich of Victoria; aunt Mary Franki of Alice; sisters-in-law Catherine Karnowski of Boise, ID, and D. Loretto Gros of San Antonio; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a retired Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) and a member of Court St. Matthew No. 2241, Catholic Daughters of the Americas; Albert Sidney Johnston Chapter 2060, United Daughters of the Confederacy; and AARP; former volunteer at Institute of Texan Cultures and OASIS. Services include Visitation on Tuesday, Feb. 19, beginning at 6:00 p.m. and Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Roy Akers-Zizik Kearns Funeral Chapels, and Mass of Christian Burial at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower on Wed., Feb. 20, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Society Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower Restoration Fund. Expressions of sympathy can be made at www.mem.com.
