Omaha World Herald - June 1986 Scribner, Neb. - Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church here for Timothy E. Zahourek of Scribner. Zahourek, 23, was killed Sunday in an automobile accident near Scribner, authorities said. A mortuary spokesman said Zahourek was employed during the summer as a driver's education teacher with the Bellevue School District. During the school year, he worked as a physical education instructor for the Jewish Community Center in Omaha, the spokesman said. Dodge County Sheriff Richard Wennstedt said Zahourek was killed when his car collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Russell A. Vakiner, 19, or rural Dodge, Neb., on a county road one mile west of Scribner about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Wennstedt said the accident appeared to have occurred when the two vehicles arrived simultaneously at the crest of a hill. Vakiner suffered facial lacerations and bruises in the accident but was able to walk to a nearby farmhouse to summon help, Wenstedt said. The sheriff said it appeared that neither driver was wearing a safety belt. Dodge County Attorney Dean Skokan said it was unlikely that any charges would be filed. Zahourek, a 1980 graduate of Scribner High School, attended Wayne State College. He graduated in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in health, recreation and physical education, the mortuary spokesman said. He is survived by his parents, Leonard and Helen Zahourek of Scribner; twin brother, Thomas of Scribner; brothers Ron of LeMars, Iowa, James of Fremont and Dan of Scribner; sisters Anne Jung of San Pedro, Calif., and Carrie Zahourek of Scribner; fiancee, LeAnne Frye of Omaha; grandmother, Mrs. Emil Zahourek of Scribner; and 10 nieces and nephews.
