November 8, 1901 reported Peter Bauer was elected Justice of the Peace. He served on the Farmers Telephone Company executive board for twenty years, had been a member of the board of directors for the Farmers Co-operative Mercantile Company, and had served as treasurer of the German Mutual Insurance Co. "Bloom on the Land" by Orleatha G. Kellogg Article by Rinehold Witt - "...The first electric rural power line was build in 1920 from the Elkhorn Valley Public Power Plant in Scribner to the Webster store about nine miles to the southwest. Peter J. Bauer and Arnold Witt, together with the Elkhorn Valley Public Power Company, made this first rural line possible. It was the first built anywhere in the county and was a success with 15 members each paying $500 to build the line. Arnold Witt and Harry Bauer, son of Peter J., hauled the poles out during corn picking time. The first lights were turned on at the Peter J. Bauer farm home the night before Christmas Eve. The other members received the lights as soon as it was possible to get to them. As time went on more lines were built and more folks received the lights from electricity."
