Bio

Joe Hillix, 76, of Hollis died Saturday, Feb. 20, at Harmon Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Stewart Funeral Chapel in Hollis with Rev. Larry Argo and Jeremy Mills officiating. Interment followed in the Fairmount Cemetery at Hollis. Hillix was born April 8, 1933 to William Franklin and Ruby Nelle (Stevens) Hillix in Lander, WY. He married the love of his life Doris Lee on October 19, 1957 at the Wedding Bell Chapel in San Diego, CA. Joe served on the USS Kidd while in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. Over the years Joe has owned and operated several different businesses in Hollis, but ranching was what he enjoyed most. He liked cooking, fishing, hunting, reading, and playing dominoes. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter and great grandson. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include: his wife of 52 years, Doris Hillix of Hollis; one son, Chad Hillix of Hollis; one granddaughter, Tegan, her mother, Rhonda Hillix, and Brady Cox of Hollis; one great grandson, Siris King Cox of Hollis; one brother, William Hillix Jr. of Birch Tree, MO; three sisters, Pat Staton of Muncie, IN; Barbara Morales and her husband, Tom; and Judy Williams and her husband, Lewis, all of Albuquerque, NM; one sister-in-law, Kathie Hillix of Santee, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Franklin and Ruby Nelle Hillix; two brothers, Larry and Roy Hillix; one sister, Nina Bentley; and two brother-in-laws, Dewey Staton and Bob Bentley.
