Carl Johannes Rieck was born at Petersburg, Nebraska June 4, 1869. He departed this life Thursday evening, November 20, 1941, having reached the age of 52 years, 5 months, and 16 days. Although he had been suffering heart trouble for some time, his death came entirely as a shock. Carl, usually known as Charles Rieck, was the youngest of the seven children of Carl Rieck, Sr.. He was baptized by the Lutheran pastor of Lindsay on November 25, 1891, and was confirmed as an adult in the Cedar Rapids St. John's Congregation, during the pastorate of Rev. Weltner. The Riecks moved to Kansas in the early nineties. They came back to Boone County in 1895 and Charles Rieck has lived in the neighborhood ever since. On March 8, 1916, he was united in marriage with Johanna Hayden. To this union four children were born: Edward, Violet, Elmer and Merlin. The mother departed this life when the youngest of these four was just a baby, on January 22, 1927. Mr. Rieck was united in marriage to Violet Lees on September 5, 1928. She had been his faithful wife ever since. His passing is mourned by his wife, Mrs. Violet Rieck, by three sons Edward, Elmer and Merlin, and one daughter Violet; five brothers, Max, Adolph, Emil, Gus, and Will; one sister, Mrs. James Rankin; and a host of relatives and friends. Services were conducted Sunday afternoon. Rev. Primrose took charge of the services at the home. Services were also conducted at Zion Lutheran Church at Albion by Rev. J. Beckman. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mrs. Otto Dettman and son Will of Lewellen, Nebr.; Mrs. Arnal Frances and daughter Grace, of Lewellen; Mr. and Mrs. Will Hinkhouse of Sioux City, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Croxell of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Bob McHood of Genoa; Mr. and Mrs. Frances Andreasen, of St. Edward; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jeffries of Genoa; Mr. and Mrs John Dewald, Oakland, Ia.; Mrs. Sarah Dewald of Avoca, Ia.; Melvin Palmer, Oakland, Iowa; Bob Lees of St. Edward; Susie Lees of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. George Rankin, Spaulding; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Rieck, of Bartlett.
