Lillie Mae "Granny" Smith, 90, of Amarillo died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, with Charlie Cox officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 14, 1920, in Finley, Okla., to Elmer and Daisy Richmond. She was raised in Turkey. She married Herman Smith on Dec. 4, 1935. She had been a resident of Amarillo most of her life. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker for many years and then worked at Pantex as a clerk for six years. She was a member of the Church of Christ but attended Palisades Fellowship Church. Mrs. Smith was affectionately known to her family and friends as "Granny." Mrs. Smith loved volunteering for the March of Dimes. She also loved square dancing and was a member of the Levi and Lace square dancing club and the Zany Danes Red Hat Society. She also loved traveling and enjoyed life to the fullest. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Smith, in 1974. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Read and husband Weldon of Amarillo; a son, Larry Smith and wife of Lily of Merced, Calif.; five grandchildren, Brett Turner, Nicholas Smith, Russell Smith, Jared Read and Janet Schleis; and five great-grandchildren.
