Fort Worth Star-Telegram (TX) - October 4, 1999 FORT WORTH - Jacob Clinton "Jim" Shockey, 84, a retired insurance agent for American General Life Insurance Company, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, in Fort Worth. Memorial service: 4 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. Burial: Private interment. Memorials: First United Methodist Church of Sulphur Springs, 301 Church Street, Sulphur Springs 75482; or the Alzheimer's Association of Tarrant County, P.O. Box 9709, Fort Worth 76147. Jacob Shockey was born April 22, 1915, to R.V. and Alice Shockey in Gilmer. Jim was raised in Gilmer and graduated from public schools in 1934. He entered Texas A&M University on a football scholarship. He established several passing records while at Texas A&M which stood well into the 1960s, and graduated in 1939. He married Ellen Sue Yeager in 1940 in Mineral Wells. She survives him. Jim entered World War II in 1942 and served in Europe for 30 months in the Air Force. He worked for several years for the Quaker Oats Company and then the American General Life Insurance Company. In 1993, he retired from the insurance business in Sulphur Springs. Shortly afterward, he and Sue moved to Fort Worth. He was a faithful supporter of Texas A&M and helped many students enroll there with jobs and scholarships. He was a member of the Former Students and Letterman's Associations. He was preceded in death by brothers, Harmon and Roy Shockey; and sisters, Mary Douphrate and Myrtle Coleman. Survivors: Wife, Ellen Sue Shockey of Fort Worth; daughters, Suanne Johnson and her husband, David, of Duncanville and Sally Whightsil and her husband, Gary, of Mansfield; grandchildren, Wesley Highfield of College Station and Haley Highfield of Mansfield; and several nephews and nieces.
