Services for Carl Guthrie, 85, of Temple will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple with the Rev. Gary Baxley officiating. Burial will be in Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple. Mr. Guthrie died Tuesday, Feb. 16, in a Temple hospital. He was born on April 21, 1924, to M.M. and Nellie Bailey Guthrie in Moody. He attended Moody schools. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. On March 6, 1946, he married Laney Benson in Waco and she preceded in death on Dec. 10, 1987. On Sept. 12, 1988, he married Juanita Broussard in Temple. He owned and operated Carl Guthrie Garage, retiring in 1987 after 42 years. He was a member of Heights Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and sang in the Golden Heights Choir. He was also a member of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife of Temple; two daughters, Janie Franz of San Antonio and Debbie Straka of Katy; a stepson, David Broussard of Salado; a stepdaughter, Judy Benson of Temple; a brother, O.C. Guthrie of Lubbock; three grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Temple Senior Center or to the Golden Heights Choir at Heights Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
