Bio

Emil "Blackie" Brozek of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on February 7, 2010. The youngest of five children born to Czech immigrants Anton and Bessie Brozek, he was born on November 9, 1925 in a farmhouse near Ennis, Texas. After graduating from Ennis High School, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1943, serving in the amphibious forces on Tarawa in the Marshall Islands. After his honorable discharge as a Boatswains Mate Third Class in 1945, he returned to Ennis and married his high school sweetheart, Margaret "Peggy" Harcrow on January 29, 1946. They relocated to Dallas in 1949 where he was employed at Lone Star Company. He retired after 25 years with Lone Star and began his second career with RVOS Farm Mutual Insurance Company. He began as a state adjustor in 1979 and served three terms as Vice President from 1983 through 1995, at which time, he officially retired from the company. He continued to serve as the RVOS Director of District 6 for 10 years from 1996 through 2006. Blackie was a long time member of Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Dallas. Blackie was dearly loved by his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. He was a loving and generous man. His motto was taken from John Wayne, "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do." Preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Charlie and Miro Brozek, and his sisters; Mildred Patak and Georgia Brozek, and his beloved wife of 57 years, Peggy. Survived by his daughters and their spouses; Shelley and Matt Payne, and Patti and Michael Stacey. Grandchildren; Lisa, Katie and Scott Payne and Andrew Stacey. The family wishes to acknowledge the very special and devoted care extended to him by Erica Carter, Judy Nowlin and Lenoria Ned, all three of whom proved that angels do, in fact, walk among us. Visitation will be Thurday, February 11, 2010 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at J.E. Keever Mortuary. Funeral Services will be on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Dan Griffin officiating.
