The Carleton Enterprise (Carleton, Nebraska) 09 Jan 1920 Obituary David Stairs was born near Batavia, Ohio, June 19, 1853, and passed from this life at his late home near Carleton Dec. 31st, 1919 aged 66 years, 6 months and 12 days. A part of his early life was spent near the place of his birth, later emigrating to the then new and comparatively unsettled west. At the age of 18 he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and united with the Christian church. On Oct. 25th, 1881, he was married to Eliza J. Southard at Eddyville, Nebr. The following children came to bless new home: Verna Stairs, Carleton, Irvin C. Stairs of Hebron, Mrs. Ralph Fullenwider, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Oscar O. Stairs of Belvidere, Mrs. rolla Rowe, of Carleton and Renna Stairs of Carleton. Besides his wife and the children named, 2 brothers and 2 sisters and 12 grandchildren are left to mourn his departure. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Brethren Church at 2:30 conducted by Rev. J.D. Kemper, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Carleton Cemetery. Dearest Father, thou has left us, And they loss we deeply feel. But again, we hope to meet thee For up there will be no more sorrow or sickness there. This we know, God knowest best, But we will bow to heavens will, And because the Savior loves you, We will trust and love him still. ------------------------------------------------------ The Carleton Enterprise (Carleton, Nebraska) 02 Jan 1920 David Stairs living four miles east of town, died Wednesday night from a stroke of paralysis that he had on Dec 24. Out of town relatives have been notified. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the Brethren church.
