Lexington Intelligencer, October 08, 1920 Venerable Presbyterian Preacher and Prominent Mason Succumbs to Pneumonia Rev. Xenophon Ryland, a Presbyterian preacher and prominent Mason, died at 11L15 o'clock Friday night, at his home in Higginsville, after an illness of ten days with pneumonia. The deceased was born on the old Ryland homestead near Lexington, June 1, 1844, and was in his 78th year. He was formerly probate judge of Lafayette County. He was prominent in Masonic circles and was Past Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge of Missouri and Past Grand High Priest of the Royal Arch Chapter of Masons of Missouri. Mr. Ryland was twice married. His first wife was Carrie Foster Fora, to whom he was married January 31, 1866. Seven children were born of this union, six of whom survive, one son and five daughters. He married his second wife, Effie Lee Mason, January 22, 1907. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in this city Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
